GRATITUDE is defined as “the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness”. Simply put, allowing us to look at life through the lens of gratitude creates a more abundant and joyful experience, filled with kindness in our everyday activities! Creating a Gratitude Journal is a great way to invite gratitude into your life daily and can look like whatever inspires you the most!
HOW TO? Well this is up to you! Some people purchase pre-made gratitude journals which include various prompts to guide you on what aspect of gratitude you might want to reflect on. If you like you can create a separate blank journal for yourself and include reflections on topics such as “What Am I grateful For Today?” or “Which One Of My Family Members Am I Most Grateful For Today” or “What’s A Memory That Brings Me Joy Today”. You can get creative with your prompts and remember that they are for whatever inspires YOUR GRATITUDE the most!
WHY? Some people may ask, why the need for an entirely separate gratitude journal, especially if you already have a daily journal, can’t you just write it in there? Well sure you can do whatever works best for you. Having a separate gratitude journey, can be helpful though, as the brain attaches value to objects. You may find that even looking at your separate gratitude journal can spark joy in you as you remember all the times you wrote down things that brought you joy in there. Also in the tough times, when you need a little pick me up, it’s great to be able to go to that one journal and flip through, to get a reminder of all the things you’ve been grateful for and experience the joy that this can spark!
